A huge mural depicting Le Macchiole, our story, and the world around us now decorates the north wall of the winery. OZMO, one of the most internationally acclaimed street artists, depicted the world of Cinzia and her sons in his signature way. It is an innovative art form that describes our long history in this unique winegrowing area.
You are probably wondering what the symbols you found on the winery’s exterior walls. Some of them are easily understood, while others may not be immediately recognizable, but they are all associated with Le Macchiole, its wines, origins and evolution over time.
Painted on the winery’s exterior walls, just opposite one of our oldest vineyards, is a complex and beautiful work of art, in black and white, and incredibly captivating.
We asked OZMO, one of the world’s greatest and most influential street artists, to describe us, our history and all that surrounds us.
The mural painting features a triangular composition, just like the great altar-pieces of the past, and it was designed to draw the viewer’s eye upward and upward.
It is painted in “chiaroscuro” tones, which make the subjects appear poised in an imaginary time, between the past and present.
The arrangement of the painting’s elements allows the viewer’s mind to wander freely from one theme to another, creating an infinite number of possible combinations.
It is a big-sized work of art: this 15-meter-long and 6-meter-high mural can be seen from a distance and it is a tribute to the Maremma region, to Giosuè Carducci and to Bolgheri.
The symbols that you see are only a small sample of the mural’s 29 hand-painted elements. We leave it up to you to interpret them, hoping that you might be able to come to the winery one day and see them with your own eyes.
